From May 23 to June 6, 2001, five youth from the Navajo Reservation will visit Austria and Vienna with two of their teachers.

This visit was initiated by Alexander Stipsits and Thomas Steiner, who were able to establish these contacts through several stays on the reservation over the course of about four years. The reason for the visit is the City of Vienna’s Eurokids Festival, which will take place from May 26 to June 2, 2001 in Vienna.

The invitation came about through our contacts with the Pedagogical Institute in Vienna, which is significantly involved in the organization of the festival. The visit is also part of NativeNow’s cultural exchange program!

As part of the film project, the group is primarily to be accompanied by video during their stay in Austria. The kids have also expressed some wishes, what they would like to see and experience. This results in the following fixed points for the video recordings:

“Saturday starts EuroKids’ Camp 2001 – Environment connects Europe”

“Vienna, (OTS). “YES, Young European Solidarity!” – Under this motto, a future workshop for students and teachers from all over Europe will take place from May 26th to June 1st at the invitation of the City of Vienna. 400 young people aged 14 Up to 18 years of age from 15 European countries pitch their tents in the CampLobau National Park and spend a week developing perspectives “for a young, vibrant and ‘green’ Europe” in the unique surroundings of the Donau-Auen National Park.

In addition to the international working groups, the program also includes a creative examination of the topic, an excursion to the Donau-Auen National Park and, of course, sightseeing in Vienna.

The high point and conclusion of the meeting is an invitation to the town hall on Thursday, May 31st. Susanne Brandsteidl, comments on questions and statements from the participants of the EuroKids’ Camp and in the evening the “Young European Solidarity” is celebrated in the large event tent in the Arkadenhof as part of a clubbing.”

Dieser Besuch wurde initiiert von Alexander Stipsits und Thomas Steiner, die im Laufe von ca. vier Jahren durch mehrere Aufenthalte in der Reservation diese Kontakte knüpfen konnten. Der Anlass für den Besuch ist das Eurokid´s-Festival der Stadt Wien, welches vom 26. Mai bis 2. Juni 2001 in Wien stattfinden wird.

Durch unsere Kontakte zum Pädagogischen Institut Wien, welches maßgeblich an der Organisation des Festivals mitwirkt, kam die Einladung zustande. Der Besuch ist auch Teil des Kulturaustauschprogrammes von NativeNow!

Im Rahmen des Filmprojektes soll in erster Linie die Gruppe während ihres Aufenthaltes in Österreich videographisch begleitet werden. Die Kid´s haben auch einige Wünsche geäußert, was sie gerne sehen und erleben wollen. Daraus ergeben sich folgende Fixpunkte für die Videoaufnahmen:

“Samstag beginnt EuroKids’ Camp 2001 – Umwelt verbindet Europa”

“Wien, (OTS). “YES, Young European Solidarity!” – Unter diesem Motto findet auf Einladung der Stadt Wien vom 26. Mai bis 1. Juni eine Zukunftswerkstatt für SchülerInnen und LehrerInnen aus ganz Europa statt. 400 Jugendliche im Alter von 14 bis 18 Jahren aus 15 europäischen Ländern schlagen im NationalparkCampLobau ihre Zelte auf und entwickeln miteinander eine Woche lang in der einzigartigen Umgebung des Nationalparks Donau-Auen Perspektiven “for a young, vibrant and ‚green’ Europe”.

Höhepunkt und Abschluss des Meetings ist eine Einladung ins Rathaus am Donnerstag, dem 31. Mai: vormittags nehmen Umweltstadträtin DI Isabella Kossina und die designierte Präsidentin des Wiener Stadtschulrates, Dr. Susanne Brandsteidl, Stellung zu Fragen und Statements der TeilnehmerInnen des EuroKids’ Camps und abends wird im großen Veranstaltungszelt im Arkadenhof ausgelassen die “Young European Solidarity” im Rahmen eines Clubbings gefeiert.”
