We are fishing in the flow of information, and are still sitting dry. The digital bridges convey the illusion of rapprochement. Where the spatial boundaries fall as a result, there remains the encounter with one’s own.

In dealing with these limits, the intrusion of unknown realities, the parameters of personal perception and behavior do not necessarily expand.

The individual has two options:

1. Isolation.
2. Opening.

If the path of opening is taken, this only makes sense if the information obtained from the virtual world finds living expression. Without sensory perception, the flow of information remains dry.

Especially in our contemporary culture, the reference to the world that can be grasped by the senses seems to become blurred. The resulting insecurity in interpersonal dealings is increasingly manifesting itself on a global level. The convenience of the digital space cannot relieve us of our responsibility towards the real world and its requirements.

“Communication in Flow” wants to invite you to a meditative examination of the nature of the current culture of communication.

[ The pictures ]The border river “Thaya” – Czech Republic/Austria as a metaphor for the flow of information/human consciousness. Archaic images emerge from the depths and awaken associations.

[ The voices ]People speak freely in their mother tongue about a real existing flow of their choice – thereby revealing a part of their individual selves and bringing it into the whole.

[ The tones ]Music acts as an emotional companion, as a ship on which the viewer travels through the audiovisual river world.

[ The usage ]“Communication in Flow” works as a three-sided projection in the real event space, as successfully demonstrated on December 5 of the previous year in the Museum of Applied Arts. The project can also be used as an interactive virtual reality installation and can be infinitely expanded with images, voices and sounds.

[ The future ]The present recordings were made in the autumn of last year. However, the project includes the depiction of the entire course of the year on the river, represented by the four seasons. Therefore, in the course of 2001, the missing seasons of spring, summer and winter on the river will be documented and the recordings will be integrated into the existing material. Furthermore, a corresponding adaptation of the music composition, adapted to the new images, is planned.

[ The context ]“Communication in Flow” is a project of the international communication platform “Native Now!”, whose multimedia projects are jointly developed and implemented by people from the fields of film – video – music – text – education – communication. The project Native Now! looks for perspectives and finds them in direct communication with people of all cultures whose logic is in intensive exchange with the sensual world. Dealing with the “real” expands the possibilities of comprehensively reflecting on the “personal”.

Wir fischen im Informationsfluß, und sitzen dennoch am Trockenen. Die digitalen Brücken vermitteln die Illusion einer Annäherung. Wo dadurch die räumlichen Grenzen fallen, bleibt die Begegnung mit den eigenen.

In der Auseinandersetzung mit diesen Grenzen, dem Eindringen unbekannter Realitäten, erweitern sich aber nicht unbedingt die Parameter der persönlichen Wahrnehmung und Verhaltensweisen.

Dem Individuum bieten sich zwei Möglichkeiten:

1. Isolation.
2. Öffnung.

Wird der Weg der Öffnung beschritten, so erscheint dies nur sinnvoll, wenn die aus der virtuellen Welt bezogenen Informationen lebendigen Ausdruck finden. Ohne sinnliche Wahrnehmung bleibt der Informationsfluß trocken.

Speziell in unserer Gegenwartskultur scheint der Bezug zur sinnlich erfassbaren Welt zu verschwimmen. Die daraus resultierende Unsicherheit im zwischenmenschlichen Umgang manifestiert sich zunehmend auf globaler Ebene. Die Bequemlichkeit des digitalen Raumes kann uns nicht unserer Verantwortung gegenüber der realen Welt und ihren Anforderungen entheben.

„Kommunikation im Fluss“ will zu einer meditativen Auseinandersetzung mit der Natur der gegenwärtigen Kommunikationskultur einladen.

[ Die Bilder ]Der Grenzfluss „Thaya“ – Tschechische Republik/Österreich als Metapher auf den Informationsstrom/das Bewußtsein des Menschen. Archaische Bilder tauchen aus der Tiefe auf und erwecken Assotiationen.

[ Die Stimmen ]Menschen sprechen frei in ihrer Muttersprache über einen real existierenden Fluss ihrer Wahl – offenbaren damit einen Teil ihres individuellen Selbst und bringen es in das Gesamte ein.

[ Die Töne ]Musik wirkt als emotionaler Begleiter, als Schiff, auf dem die Betrachter die audiovisuelle Flusswelt bereisen.

[ Die Verwendung ]„Kommunikation im Fluss“ funktioniert als dreiseitige Projektion im realen Veranstaltungsraum, wie am 5. Dezember des Vorjahres im Museum für angewandte Kunst erfolgreich bewiesen. Das Projekt bietet sich auch als interaktive Virtual Reality-Installation an und kann unendlich um Bilder, Stimmen und Töne erweitert werden.

[ Die Zukunft ]Die vorliegenden Aufnahmen wurden im Herbst des vergangenen Jahres gemacht. Das Projekt beinhaltet jedoch die Darstellung des gesamten Jahresablaufes am Fluss, repräsentiert durch die vier Jahreszeiten. Es werden daher im Laufe des Jahres 2001 die noch fehlenden Jahreszeiten Frühling, Sommer und Winter am Fluss dokumentiert und die Aufnahmen in das bestehende Material integriert. Weiters ist eine entsprechende Adaption der Musikkomposition, angepasst an die neuen Bilder, vorgesehen.

[ Der Kontext ]„Kommunikation im Fluß“ ist ein Projekt der internationalen Kommunikationsplattform „Native Now!, deren multimediale Projekte von Menschen aus den Bereichen Film – Video – Musik – Text – Bildung – Kommunikation gemeinschaftlich erarbeitet und ausgeführt werden. Das Projekt Native Now! sucht Perspektiven und findet sie in der direkten Kommunikation mit Menschen aller Kulturen, deren Logik sich in intensivem Austausch mit der sinnlichen Welt befindet. Die Auseinandersetzung mit dem „Realen“ erweitert die Möglichkeiten, das „Persönliche“ umfassend zu reflektieren.
